» “Diablo III” Announced!
I love Diablo. Diablo has always been like Guantlet but takes itself way more seriously. It’s a personal dungeon crawl filled with undead things in an immersive atmosphere.
I’ve tried World of Warcraft, but the game play flexibility and options just don’t seem as important with so many non-linear, time-filling… well, bullsh*t quests. Seriously, I have to fight a pig? No, wait, kill twelve spider monkeys? Like any good adventurer, I want to start where it’s dangerous and deadly, not tromping through mud because “the local guard” needs help when they’re not watching a bridge. Don’t get me started on the auctions.
Now Blizzard has announced Diablo III is officially in the pipeline. The official site already has what I want to see and a twenty-minute featurette with sample intended game play. Like anything Blizzard does, there’s no street date yet, but if they’ve got this much going on already, we should be within a year undead-stomping, demon-slaying, cinematic-reward happiness.

This announcement had been expected for months. While I am glad it is finally coming, I have given up PC gaming for the current generation of consoles. So, despite a real desire to play this game, unless it comes to consoles, I won’t be playing it.
Suit yourself. Me? It’s an excuse for that new PC purchase I’ve been contemplating. Come to think of it, that was the same reason I upgraded my LAST desktop.
That was one of the main reasons I lost interest in PC gaming. The need to upgrade every 1-2 years was just not for me anymore.
A few years ago, PC’s had a number of exclusive titles and overall tended to look far better than their console counter-parts. They also had a number of features like voice-chat and servers that consoles didn’t have.
Now, consoles can do everything gaming-wise (as well as things like Email) that PC’s can do and almost no games are exclusive to PC anymore. After a year of playing shooters on consoles, I have converted on that front as well and prefer controllers to mouse/keyboard despite having spent years being a defender of the latter.
I just hope Blizzard brings this one to the consoles. Other hack & slash games have proven this formula works well without a keyboard and mouse providing you do it correctly.
Yeah, but I bought my LAST desktop to play “Diablo II”… this is just the excuse I need to start savin’ up for my all-new, kick-ass, beat-down box.
I just bought a new laptop last month, but mine was for working. It could likely play DIII depending on the requirements, but I would rather play on my 42in TV than a laptop LCD.
