»  The Half-Life Time Capsule, Part III

In roughly the same time it took me to get from San Francisco back to Jacksonville, Florida, two trunks full of books and memories arrived in J-ville by bus. But they didn’t start off that way.

Here’s the storage unit in California before we started. Sadly, neither the fridge nor the washer and dryer are mine; everything else, however, was.

Here we see what’s important in your early twenties: Freddy Krueger, Dragonlance, and Worlds of Wonder (the original WOW) “Laser Tag” guns and targets (those still work, by the way, and yes, I kept ‘em).

Here’s a strange thing. It appears to be a combination of a cassette tape player, FM radio, and 5-band graphic equalizer, all in one convenient device! Hey, this was state-of-the-art in 1986. Sort of.

More junk. That’s a manual for an IBM personal computer, probably an 8088 chip set. Your television remote control is more sophisticated. There’s a few Stephen King paperbacks, a thesaurus, art supplies, and more crap. Mostly crap. At this point, if it’s got a replacement already back home, it’s trash.

Still too much stuff. I’ve got a quote from Greyhound for about $100 each to ship a full footlocker from coast to coast (under 100 lbs), so I’ve still got some sorting to do. New decision: the bulk of the magazines have to go, keep the rarest.

All packed! This is the back of my buddy Ed’s Jeep Rubicon. Lemme tell ya, it’s fully loaded and sucks gas like Al Gore’s private jet, but it’s very cool nonetheless. Bottom line: lotsa crap, a few treasures in the mix, and a fairly large box of incriminatingly old photos from boot camp, high school, and college. Will I post ‘em? Time will tell.

I was hoping to see pictures about this sometime. Going down memory lane can be fun.

Do you really want to see a pencil-necked teen with a haircut that escaped from 1975? I am thinking about it though… it’s not precisely a mid-life crisis, but I am looking at all of it as a good assessment of “Where the hell am I?”

Hey, you got to see me in all my teenaged glory…it’s only fair!

No - you scare me enough as it is.

A military dress uniform pic would be fun. =)
