It took a little under ten days, eleven total segments, and just under 6800 words to complete my short story introducing my character’s version of himself and the world he created. Both myself and a buddy of mine kicked ideas back and forth regarding the character for a cooperative storytelling game, and I know he has plans for writing up his own version in a mostly different setting.
I did this for a couple of reasons. First, it was fun playing a dead kid as a character, then writing as that character as if he’d written the story himself. Secondly, it establishes a neat little world that I’m already considering expanding upon and taking in its own direction. Finally, I wanted to see how fast I could crack out and edit up a full-length short story from an idea that was pouring out of me and seemed intent on writing itself (which I’m told is the hallmark of a great character to begin with).
The main differences between the story version here and the role-played character are as follows:
- Spooky is much younger and more capable in his own story.
- The world Spooky actually inhabits is one of super heroes, not strictly the paranormal.
- The Veiled Woman turned out to be a mythical character in BOTH versions; great minds thinking alike?
- Spooky’s dad is dead in his “real” world and lost a brother as well as his mother.
Hello, Mundane. You’re shackled, handcuffed, scared, and disoriented, and that’s just what They’ve done to your mind. Yes, THEY.
Heed this warning; it was created as an advisory for anyone who happens across this website concerning my several years experience. You are here against your will. You probably think I’m trying to sound mad. You’re right about that, but only because others need to know what I’m mad about. I don’t want anything to happen to you, because there are only a few I can talk to. I CAN talk to you, yes?
At one time or another, you find yourself alone in a hallway moving toward a dark, empty room.
As you enter the room, there are always questions. The room is new to you, but has anyone been there before? Who was the last person to enter the room, set a lamp in the corner and watch the darkness retreat into shadow? Perhaps no one has been in that particular room before, providing a better explanation of why it looks and feels empty, perhaps even lonely, but still new.
Either I’m getting faster at setting these things up or I’d already done enough thinking as to what I wanted to see. As things get added here, I may tweak it a bit here and there.
